SEOULIAN keeps editorial reading open without an account. Fashion Member manages advertising and is the recipient of SEOULIAN advertising revenue.

Current configuration

SEOULIAN does not currently load Google AdSense code or Google advertising cookies. The site does not require registration or comments. The optional Seoulian Weekend launch list stores only an email address and consent timestamps.

To learn which stories are genuinely useful, SEOULIAN records three first-party, anonymous events: a story card remaining at least half visible for a short interval, a story page opening, and an engaged read after at least 30 visible seconds and reaching halfway through the article. Card impressions are sent in small batches. Link clicks themselves do not make a request.

The dedicated interest-event record contains the story ID, broad page placement, event type, and time. It does not contain an IP address, user-agent string, referrer, cookie, account, email address, or persistent reader ID. A story link's placement can be kept in the current tab's session storage for up to five minutes and is removed after the destination story opens. The measurement is disabled when a browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, and common automated browsers are excluded.

Only aggregate results are placed in a private editorial report. Small samples are marked insufficient rather than ranked, and interest signals remain one input alongside accuracy, rights, usefulness, and editorial range. SEOULIAN does not use these events to personalize pages or build reader profiles.

The U.S. Cultural Events desk (expanded from concerts on September 5, 2026) also measures a short visible impression, an event-guide opening, an official event/registration-link click, and a calendar-download click. One impression batch and at most one event of each action type are sent per page. The dedicated event log (with legacy concert identifiers) stores only the event ID, action, broad page placement, version and time; no reader or device identifier, IP address, user-agent or referrer is included. GPC, Do Not Track and automated-browser exclusions apply here too. Outbound clicks do not establish a ticket purchase, and calendar clicks do not establish successful calendar imports.

The web server may retain ordinary request records—including time, requested page, response status, referring page, user-agent string, and network address—for security, reliability, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting. These records are not presented as editorial audience profiles.

Seoulian Weekend launch list

When a reader voluntarily joins the launch list, SEOULIAN stores the submitted email address, the consent time, the latest update time, and the form source in a private database outside the public website directory. The form does not store an IP address, advertising profile, or browsing history.

The address is used only to prepare and operate Seoulian Weekend. It is not sold or added to unrelated Fashion Member marketing. Readers can remove an address through the form on the Seoulian Weekend page. Removed addresses are deleted rather than retained as an inactive marketing record.

The launch list currently records interest only; no newsletter delivery service or tracking pixel is active. This policy will be updated before a delivery provider or email analytics technology is introduced.

LA WHALE banner

The LA WHALE placement is labeled Advertisement. Its outbound URL contains campaign parameters identifying SEOULIAN, the display format, the campaign, and the placement. Those parameters let the destination distinguish campaign visits.

Clicking the banner leaves SEOULIAN. The destination site’s own privacy practices apply after that point. SEOULIAN does not disguise the link as an editorial recommendation.

If Google ads go live

Before activation, this page will be reviewed against the final configuration. Google and other advertising partners may then use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar identifiers to deliver, limit, measure, and report advertising. Google explains this processing in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services ↗.

Where consent is legally required, advertising code will be governed by a Google-certified consent management platform. Readers can also review or change advertising personalization through Google My Ad Center ↗.

Google advertising remains disabled until the AdSense site review, Fashion Member payment profile, consent configuration, authorized-seller file, and production security policy are complete.
